The Neukölln schoolBOOK workshop (NEUKÖLLNERschulBUCHWERKSTATT), under the direction of the printmaker Miriam Zegrer and the author Henriette Dushe, has been regularly held in the historical printshop of the FHXB Museum since 2015, inviting children and youth from third grade and up to learn about historical and modern printmaking techniques. In the form of big and small projects, open workshop days and special days of action are used to showcase topics relevant for the museum, the district, and the city. On these days, participants can express themselves on the selected topics with their newly acquired artistic techniques. They work with linocut and xylography, etching and silk-screen, as well as typographical type-script in the shop and with the historical printing machinery of the museum.
This collaborative museum educational program in the printshop is financed by various sponsors, including the Berlin project fund for cultural education, the German museum association, or the Berlin cultural agents program. District funding is also a possibility.
Together with the schulBUCHWERKSTATT and the shop’s team of artists, schools and educational after-school/leisure facilities in all Berlin districts may apply for funding for school and extracurricular project ideas.
