Stolpersteine in Remembrance of the Victims of National Socialism
Stolpersteine or "stumbling stones" are cobblestones inserted into the sidewalks of the former residences of victims of the Nazi regime, which provide brief information about the fates of these victims. Over 800 Stolpersteine have been produced and installed in the district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg by Gunter Demnig, the initiator of the project. In order to insert Stolpersteine in the sidewalks of as many relevant Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg apartment buildings as possible, sponsors willing to finance the production of one such Stolperstein for 120 € each are needed. The district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg provides funding for Stolpersteine to victims of the Nazis upon application by living relatives or descendants.
