Organization for the Research and Presentation of the History of Kreuzberg

The organization for the research and presentation of the history of Kreuzberg (Verein zur Erforschung und Darstellung der Geschichte Kreuzbergs e.V.) was founded in 1978. The organization’s goal, according to its charter, is "the research and presentation of the history of the district of Kreuzberg, in particular, and the implementation of exhibits, events, and publications as well as collaboration with other institutions and organizations (e.g. Heimatmuseum) to encourage and facilitate cultural activities" (paragraph 2).

Together with the FHXB Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Museum, founded in 1991, our organization has organized and realized various projects. Since the joining of Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg into one district, we have also worked to contribute to the growth of both tradition-rich boroughs and have thus incorporated Friedrichshain into its activities on the research and representation of this joint-district’s history.

The then chairwomen of the organization were the Kreuzberg mayor Cornelia Reinauer and the former director of the BVV (district council assembly) of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg Riza Baran. The community organization for the research and presentation of the history of Kreuzberg is a legally registered and recognized non-profit organization with the purpose of supporting and furthering cultural activities.*

* Der Verein zur Erforschung und Darstellung der Geschichte Kreuzbergs e.V. ist laut Bescheid des Finanzamtes für Körperschaften I als gemeinnützig im Sinne der "Förderung kultureller Zwecke" anerkannt.
