Archive

The archive for local history is as much the museum’s depot and study collection as it is a service point (an advisory office for e.g. scholars and researchers, for teachers and school children, for historical initiatives and lay historians; a site of interesting finds and a primary source for photographs, documents, records, and objects from local history).

The collection process has the following points of focus:

  • Photographs, artistic renderings, postcards, and other visual material that documents the historical life and form of the city and of Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg
  • Documents, both public records and personal collections, which can be reconstructed using personal biographies and company/industry histories
  • In-kind donations and memorabilia that tell the story of Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg; objects of everyday use or products and machinery from local industry (for example, the printing industry)
  • Recorded interviews with witnesses to history
  • Documents on the art and cultural history of Kreuzberg between 1945 and 2000 (support for artists, art exhibitions and galleries, theatre and music events, German-Turkish cultural activities, art in public space and architectural art)

Part of the collection can be viewed in the digital archive of the FHXB Museum and on the portals of museum digital, Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek, and EUROPEANA.

Opening hours:

Tuesday and Wednesday 10:00 to 16:00

Thursday 12:00 to 18:00
